Join us for a creative afternoon learning how to transform wool, water and simple tools into a beautiful felted landscape. Guided by BCM Education Director Kim Gehring-Cook, participants will receive step-by-step instruction while creating their own approximately 9" x 9" wool-felted piece.
All materials and tools are provided. No experience necessary, just bring your creativity and enjoy learning a new craft!
This workshop is for ages 18+ and is limited to 12 participants.
Cost: Members: $45
Nonmembers: $65

Explore how women's fashion evolved during the mid-19th century through a lecture and live dressing demonstration featuring a Victorian hoop skirt. Rober Haven will discuss how undergarments created the dramatic silhouettes that defined the era and demonstrate how these garments were worn. Included with museum admission. 

 

Speakeasy Night at BCM

Constructing the Victorian Walking Skirt (2-Day Workshop)

May 16-17, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Create your own late-1890s "straight-to-bias" walking skirt in this two-day sewing workshop inspired by the iconic Gibson Girl silhouette. Participants will learn how to draft the skirt pattern directly onto fabric using their own measurements and discover which fabrics work best for this style of garment. Beginners are encouraged to start with plain muslin for their first attempt, which can later function as a petticoat.

Cost: $35 members, $50 nonmembers

Family Crafting Through Time: 1930s Rag Rugs

Join us for a hands-on family craft inspired by the resourcefulness of the 1930s. Led by BCM Education Director Kim Gehring-Cook, participants will learn how to create a 1930s-style rag rug, a practical and creative craft families once used to reuse worn fabric and decorate their homes.
 
This program connects to BCM’s exhibit "Treasures From the Attic: 250 Years of Fashion & Furniture," exploring the everyday skills and creativity that shaped life in earlier generations.
Recommended for families with children ages 8 and up.
 
Cost: Museum admission plus $10 material fee. This is for one craft per family. If additional craft supplies are desired, they must be ordered at the time of registration, at an additional fee of $10 each.
